Fixed Networks - Leased Lines and LES services
While many organisations are actively replacing leased line connections, there may be good business or operational reasons for some organisations to either keep or deploy point-to-point links.
Where sites need to be connected which are geographically close, leased line or Ethernet point-to-point links (also referred to as LAN Extension Services or LES ) may be the best answer.
Leased Line services provide dedicated bandwidth with outstanding performance when compared to Ethernet or IP services where greater packet loss, latency or jitter are the norm. This makes leased lines ideal for applications that are very sensitive to such issues.
As Ethernet is by far the most common data networking standard at Layer 2 of the OSI model, Ethernet services provide an excellent basis for providing higher bandwidth services more cost effectively than leased lines.
